Family friendly:
Temple- all 3rd, 4th, and 5th years are married and have 20 kids among them. Things may be changing though- none of the 1st or 2nd years are even married.
Madison- many families, and they seemed happy. Excellent cost of living.
UNC- several families. Excellent cost of living and superb schools. Not necessarily an easy schedule though.
OHSU- a few resident families. Decent schedule. Great city for families- very affordable.
Not family-friendly: Both the following places may accept applicants with families, but I'm guessing there is a reason none of the residents at either have kids.
NYMC- (Westchester/St. Vincents). Their two main hospitals, which they essentially split the time between, are 1 hour apart. To me this obligatory commute fully explains why residents with families chose not to go there, and the married residents there don't have time to have kids.
George Washington- has several married resdients, but still no kids either. Other than a moderately high cost of living, there's no obvious reason they'd be not family friendly. Perhaps the average of 2000 cases logged keeps them too busy?
One issue I didn't think much about until just before applying was distant rotations. I read about a few programs on this site that talked about several far away rotations. Don't quote me, but I recall crossing Lenox Hill off my list because they do a 6 month trauma rotation in Texas? and a 3 month rotation in Boston, or somehting like that. Regardless of the details, I personally would avoid places that put you more than 60 miles from your family for more than a month or two.
