If you do a UW externship its pretty even scrubs vs. shirt and tie but at harborview its pretty much all scrubs all the time. I would bring some nice clothes for meetings with faculty, drug rep dinners, going out etc...call is whatever you work out with the other students and is dependent on how many of you there are. usually q4 for the trauma teams and less often for those at the UW....your main responsibilities in my eyes are OR and clinic in addition to helping to pre-round and helping with dressing changes on rounds and some notes...hopefully there will be minimal scut...it really works as just one big team and we pretty much just do whatever we can...there are not "med student" vs "chief only" jobs...we'll all do notes, dressing changes, splinting, etc....just jump in after the first few days when you get the hang of things and do whatever you feel comfortable doing. i'll be at the view starting aug 30th so if you are there before november we'll get to work together...If you have any questions feel free to post here or send me a PM. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your time out here in seattle. Its a great place. My advice for the rotation is work hard, smile, and meet as many people as possible...don't worry too much about what you need to read etc...basic anatomy will do you plenty....see you soon
