Hi,

I am a third year. I recently switched to Ortho but only have general surgery research. I did summer research between year 1 and 2 and have one publication, one presentation and several video presentations.

I am wondering if I should take some time to do some Ortho research or as long as you have some research that counts?

My score are good (between 245-250 for step 1) and upper half for rank with most of year 3 getting honors.

Thanks in advance.

if you can find a manageable and well defined project with a good mentor, then it would be worth it. I guess even if you can't, it's not going to hurt you and would give you something to talk about. the gen surg research should be helpful too.

I would definitely look into something if you can jump on a project. I hate to say it, but upper half and 245-250 is becoming an average ortho applicant and while you have a very good chance of matching with those credentials, more research will only help you get your choice of residency.
