Does anyone feel obligated to rank your home program high? I get the feeling like my home program wants me to go there. I feel like I would be stabbing them in the back if I went somewhere else. Is this misguided?

I think you should rank your home program highly/at the top for this reason only: you like them BETTER than everywhere else you went.

You need to rank your places in the order that you liked them, not out of some sense of loyalty to your home program. It is not your responsibility to fufull your schools wishes if you would rather go somewhere else. If they tell you that they really want you then you should just view that as an improvement in the odds that you will match somewhere since your home program sounds like they are gonna rank you highly. Thats it.

If they view that as "backstabbing" then that tells you what kinda people they are and you should think twice about spending five years there.

Just my thoughts
Good Luck
