Hello all! I was looking for a little bit of advice and direction- hoping someone can give me some honest advice! I have always wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon, however, I am fighting an uphill battle. I am an IMG from a Caribbean medical school with average grades and a Step 1 score of 226. I have been published once in a non- orthopedic related field. Basically looking for advice on how to best get into the field. I am willing to do whatever it takes- time isn't an issue for me! Thank you in advance for any help!!!

It's going to be tough. You're best option will probably be to go somewhere and do research with someone at that school and try to get a very strong letter. You will likely only be able to get interviews at places you do research or rotate.

Not to be a downer but you have very little chance to get into a program in the US. With a board score that's 20 points lower than the average score of a U.S. MD. Maybe try to to do it in your home country if your set on ortho?

Have you tried looking at DO programs? I'm not sure what their requirements are. That may be more feasible to match.
