Any information on this program? They don't have a website so I'm haveing trouble getting any sense for what the program is like. I am trying to decide if I should interview here? Thanks to anyone who has experience here.

I went to med school there and did a month-long rotation with that department. Overall I think it is a good place to train and is worth a look. The chairman is Dr. Asprinio who does trauma and spine and is very good in the OR. He works extremely hard and expects the same of the residents. Dr. Luks does sports medicine and is also very good. The negatives of the program in my opinion are the commute (you spend roughly 1/3 of each year at St. Vincent's in Manhattan and the rest of the time at Westchester MC which is at about a 45 min. drive.) and the hospital in Westchester, which has had some financial trouble and is pretty short on ancillary staff. However there is a lot of operating starting early in the residency and I have no doubt that the residents are well-trained after completing that program.

Good to hear from you Calcaneus -- been a while

Anyway, I would have to agree with the previous assessment. NYMC/WMC is a good place to train, and I would have been happy to go there as a resident. They are not terribly academic, though research opportunities certainly exist. WMC is a major trauma center with heavy volume -- the residents work very hard, and are well-trained as a result. The chairman is a crazy workaholic, but is also one of the most amazingly talented surgeons around, and a great person to learn from. The residents operate early, often, and well -- and the graduates seem to have gotten very good fellowships over the last few years (HSS, UPenn, Cleveland Clinic). Overall, I think it would be a really good place to train, and definitely worth a look. They seem to be dogged by the same problem as Stony Brook -- a suburban location with a lot of commuting.
