Hi Everyone!
I am a general surgery resident who has been accepted for a PGY2 orthopedic position starting 07/08. The only problem is my rotations in PGY1 are not completely compatible with the ACGME requirements for a PGY1 ortho. Has any one had the same situation? what options do I have?
Appreciate any inputs.

I am in the same boat as you were. Currently a PGY1 going through the Match process and looking for opportunities to open up. Do you know of any other PGY2s opening up? Any other spots at the program your goind to.

As for the requirement thing, the program that accepted you certainly understands that you will not have all of the requirements. You might have to forgo some of your "vacation time" to complete the PGY1 rotations, but certainly you would only have 1-3 at most to complete if you are in a PGY1 surgical internship.

Congrats and looking forward to hearing from you.

Is there anywhere besides Orthogate to hear about PGY-2 orthopaedic spots? How did you find out about yours?

Although I am far from an expert on the matter, I believe the ACGME requirements govern residency programs and are terms for them to maintain accredidation. To be eligible to sit for boards, you must meet the ABOS requirements, one of which is to graduate from an ACGME accredited program. You will probably want to check with the ABOS to see if there are any specific requirements for the intern year to be able to sit for written boards. If there aren't, then you will likely not need to give up any vacation time for additional rotations. Simply graduating from an accredited program will likely be enough.

UF (Gainesville) is taking a 2 this year. They are going through the match for the spot.
