Mt Sinai is definitely know for this as well. i think for about 3 or 4 years now all 3 of their incoming class have been rotators.

Georgetown interviews nonrotators (about 30 this year), but last year only matched one nonrotator so the odds aren't great there. at my georgetown interview, the PD said they would rank 1 of the nonrotators in their top 3.

nonetheless, you can still get interviews at these places without rotating. I interviewed at Northwestern without rotating. whether they ranked me high, who knows. hopefully i will match higher on my list and so won't know if i could have gotten in there. northwestern usually have 1 or 2 of their 9 match who are nonrotators.

West Virginia University Has a great sub-I rotation & most years our incoming interns have rotated with us. Our top ranks this year, as with those past, are filled with people we have worked with directly. Most programs are more likely to give you the nod if they have seen your work ethic in action. That said, a personal visit can work against you if you have any glaring personality flaws. For the most part, programs want to know if they want to work with you for 5 or 6 years.

I think most programs prefer to take people that rotated at their program. A PD told me on an interview that it is generally accepted amongst them that doing a rotation at their institution and performing well increases your stock dramatically.

Georgetown is definately a place where they love to take rotators and their own students. It is also a great rotation because they have a great teaching program and you learn a lot as a student. If you have any thoughts about doing a rotation there I recommend doing it earlier because you will learn a lot and be able to shine on your next rotations at other places.

My recommendation is to do rotations at places you think you might want to go to for residency and then work your ass off and make a good impression.

add temple, st mary's/san fran, and as previously noted mt sinai and utsw. conversely, rotating at new mexico will not increase your chances

Regarding northwestern, if you are from a Chicago medical school, you can definitely get an interview without rotating. I did and so did another from my school (whether we could have matched, who knows?, we both matched higher on our rank lists). If you are not from a Chicago medical school, than what was said above is probably true.

Rush definitely interviews nonrotators. There were at least 20 nonrotators that got interviews. In my interview, I was told that their residents are about 50-50 in regards to rotators and nonrotators.

University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) looks highly on rotators, but interviews many people who do not rotate there. Greatly increases your stock if you are solid while on rotation.

I echo what was said about UTSW.

Utah interviews about 25 people for 5 spots, and about 3-4 of those are non-rotaters. Of course, they also get about 35-40 rotaters a year, so if you do the math, you see that many rotaters dont get interviews.
