I know that Van Mow at Columbia has been an orthopaedic research stud for decades and does great work on cartilage biomechanics. Though, I hear his ties to the ortho dept have decreased over the last few years.

Also, keep in mind that HSS has several ortho basic science research labs, and always have students rotating through.

We have many pathways for students to participate in research at Columbia - I would invite you to our website to further explore some of these opportunities at . In brief, however...

Francis Lee, MD and Ted Blaine, MD are our Co-Directors of the Center for Orthopaedic Research (COR) with a number of basic science projects going on at all levels. Mel Rosenwasser, MD is the Director of the Trauma Training Center - a research machine in both basic science and clinical studies. Clinical research in total joint arthroplasty is being led by William Macaulay, MD. Mike Vitale, MD, MPH, is a rising leader in outcomes studies and is involved in a number of cutting-edge pediatric orthopaedics projects. Most of the faculty are involved in either basic science, clinical, or outcomes research and we all have students, residents, and some fellows involved in these endeavors.

Please feel free to contact us at any time.

Sincerely,

William N. Levine, MD
Associate Professor, Orthopaedic Surgery
Residency Director
