Can anyone tell me about programs that have additional research years, or programs that would consider combining an ortho residency spot with a PhD program?

There are a few 6 year programs (i.e. 1 additional year of research). I am aware of St. Louis and San Diego. Other programs (OSU, HJD, Penn) have a few 6 year spots in addition to their normal 5 year spots.

Cleveland Clinic is also 6 years, with a year of research. Two residents a year do an extra research year at Case Western.

I haven't done a search to see if it has been done, but perhaps we could post a list of all programs that are 6 years, and programs that are 5 years with a 6 year option.

Wake Forest matches 1 resident/yr to a 7yr spot with the 2 research years at the beginning. Don't know if they would consider combining a PhD but you could call and ask.
