I am about to start my second year at this caribbean medical school. I have looked through the many posts on FMG's, but still have some questions, I hope you can help me out.

I am from the U.S., and had decent MCAT and GPA, but went to Ross because of family issues (I couldn't start school until Jan. and didn't want to wait another year). I keep reading on these posts that you can't match directly out of med school, but at Ross, years 3 and 4 are done in the states. Does that change anything? I have some connections at the hospital where I used to work, including having my name on a couple of published ortho research papers. I know I'm getting a little ahead of myself as I have not taken the USMLE I or II, but assuming that goes well, should I have a problem based on being from Ross?

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your status as a FMG WILL make things harder on you. There is no sugar-coating it. Can you still match? Yes.
Many places will simply look over your application if you are a FMG. Look through the archives here at what places have taken FMG's in the past and start there. I assume you will be doing your 3rd and 4th years here in the states like most carribean schools? I would certainly try to make some contacts at the places you go to get your foot in the door and be sure to kick ass on our rotations and on step 1. I am just pulling a number out of my rear, but i think that anything less than a 230 would not make you stand out enough amongst the US graduates. Is this fair? Probably not. Is that the way things work? Probably so.
Good Luck and feel free to ask any more questions.
