So it seems that all 3 of the aways I applied to on VSAS got filled up and I am left with no scheduled away rotations at this point. Does anyone have any recommendations as to go about finding spots at some programs or know of any programs that have spots available? This is really disappointing and has me worrying a lot that I'll be left with no aways which seemingly would destroy my chances of matching. Thanks

You need to find some programs that do not use VSAS. Call the program coordinators and ask if they have an opening. Even if they say no, ask them to take down your contact information in case one of their rotators cancels (which will happen the closer it gets to August).

I don't know where you're from or how competitive you are but ortho is one of those fields that is virtually impossible to get into without an away - and I'm not sure I'd want to be at a program that didn't care if I had not rotated anywhere.

You need to do at least two month-long away rotations somewhere. Preferably a university program and a community program - both for your own benefit and to have a good mix of letters. You can pm me if you want the name and contact information at my program - there may be slots available here...it just may not be for the time-frame you want.
