i interviewed at utsa, and one of my classmates happily matched there recently. its a solid program, currently in favorable status by the acgme and rrc. utsa is not on probation anymore. they have taken enormous strides to mend any shortcomings in the program. i agree that carlisle is a true resident advocate and an all-around good guy. he sets the tone in the program. san antonio is a decent town. the hospital is in a very nice location within the city. the residents claim to have early operative experience, and seemed very pleased with the training. i think you would be in good shape if you rotated and matched there. beware advice from your home faculty. they are a great resource, but often have outdated/biased info. check with several people, including this site and current residents, before you form an opinion.
