Good grief... I can't believe Baylor interviews 110 people for 5 spots. Terrible odds.

So used to posting rejects that I forgot to include the interview dates....

Where did you find that information?

Baylor email: "Interview slots are limited to a first come, first serve basis and each interview day is set to a limited number (55) as well."  

55 people per day? holy crap.

I heard residents have quit Baylor's program and that it is pretty malignant/not well run..

any truth to this?

hrm, not sure about baylor. But last I heard it was under probation for something.

I interviewed there last year and was frightened by the program. I didn't apply there this year. It seemed like they had an abnormally busy experience at their community/county hospital, ben taub. The residents were explaining to me that they have so many cases, that they operate all through the night, every night. No, they're not emergent cases, but cases that they can't get to throughout the day. They're actually scheduled for the evening. I was also told that the residents are on their own for these. That freaked me out as well.

I don't know if I got the whole story right, but that was enough to frighten me away from applying there again

Yeah, I interviewed there last year and heard similar horror stories. They've also been having a lot of financial problems (the hospital, not necessarily the ortho department) and have been negotiating with Rice about a merger to help bail themselves out. The faculty and residents seemed like a genuinely fun and close group though, and I'm sure all that hard work pays off in the end.

Anyone just get an invite from Loyola and then have it immediately rescinded?

Haha... that was a definite kick in the balls. I guess I should probably just consider that a rejection. Double ouch.

I called up. They said that there are still spots open (maybe) and that if you haven't received a rejection.. there's still a chance.

Apparently this happens every year one way or the other (accidentally sending rejects or invites). I'd say that the accidental invites are more painful than rejects since we all expect rejects. I've had some programs send invites through regular mail vs. eras. Personally I think this is the way to go to avoid sending a mass email through eras inviting all the applicants to interview.
