Oh Goodie! I'm so glad I get to be first on the rejection list, guess my app really rubbed someone the wrong way.

Here it is:

Dear Applicant:
Thank you for your completed application and interest in the Cleveland Clinic Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Training Program.
Our interview selection committee has carefully reviewed your application and supporting documentation. Unfortunately, the large number of excellent applicants this year far exceeds our capacity to interview all of them and, as such, we will be unable to offer you an interview at this time.
We appreciate your interest in our program and wish you much success in pursuing your endeavors.
Sincerely,
Christine J. Orlinski

I really appreciate them sending their rejection with subject line "Interview at UCLA".

That didn't briefly get my hopes up or anything

For a lot of the programs I have applied to, I have heard nothing either way. I know they have sent out invitations, but it appears as if they still haven't sent rejections.

For example, neither Pitt nor Emory actually sent anything this year officially notifying us we're out of the running, but since their interview dates have passed, it's probably safe to assume we're finished. based on last year's threads, i know they have notified applicants in the past that they had been rejected.

I'm thinking about sending emails to the following programs to see if they are still considering folks but figured I would ask here first. Maybe some of you all have already talked to them:

maryland
northwestern
rush
washu

also NYU and union memorial (but they just sent out invites so i'm willing to wait for a little while longer).

what is up with this trend of not bothering to let you know that you're rejected?

some places might just delay sending rejection letters in case they get cancellations and can pull some more interviewers out of the ones they "havent rejected yet." optimistically speaking that is.

I believe that Maryland said that if you don't get a rejection that you are still under consideration, although I am not sure if they have rejected anyone yet.

Union Memorial sent me an interview invite. I wrote them to say I wouldn't be able to make it. Then they sent me a rejection letter.

Guess they really wanted to have the last word...

Just out of curiousity, has anyone heard of rejection letters that are a little more honest, like "your application does not meet our standards" or "you failed to complete xxx of the application" or "dude, come on... get serious!" I have heard they used to send out rejections like this (except the last one of course).
