Not sure what others' experiences are, but I think there is and will continue to be a lot of contact between applicants and programs bw interview and ROL. I would agree most programs are moving away from the official "tier" letters and the statements at interview day saying there will be official post-interview contact, etc.
That said, I think most programs are likely reaching out to a few select applicants with calls or emails...or at the least responding to thank you letters with strongly encouraging responses. I think the prior statements regarding matching and not having received a phone call are absolutely true. Not everyone who matches will get a call or letter and not everyone who gets a call will match.
However, I can attest that programs who say they don't participate in post-interview contact actually do...so, the point of this message - while some programs say that the list is done at interview day, chances are it's not. My program states that it's done, and in many ways it is, but slight shuffling occurs until the last week, and if it's your top spot, it's always worth a phone call or email to tell them so.
