I got an interview offer from Georgetown even though I did not rotate there. I have heard all the rumors about not getting an interview if you didn't rotate. But what I haven't heard is what are the chances of a nonrotator who does get an interview. So now that I have the offer, do I have a chance to get a spot there or am I just wasting my time interviewing there?

Anyone know how many people they interview for their 3 spots?

Wow, you are racking up the interviews, so you are probably a great candidat so give it a whirl!

I've heard they interview 40 including all home students which is around 24 this year, plus rotators plus other sick candidates.

Just out of curiosity, why does Georgetown have so many ortho applicants every year? ~25 is double or triple the number that most med school classes usually have. Is the ortho department there extremely involved in med student education?

Georgetown does not interview it's own students, so count them out. There are 26 people applying for Ortho this year (I am one of them) and the reason is mainly the involvement of the Ortho dept in medical education. They make it a great rotation for students. There is no scut, but still responsibility, you get to operate and get your hands dirty and they pimp constantly which makes you feel good when you bust your a$$ and answer their questions correctly. Georgetown seems to like rotators, but this past year the 3 residents were a non-rotator, a rotator, and a former G-town student. Obviously it's better if you rotated and made a good impression but that is true anywhere. It is just magnified when there are so few residency positions.
I think anywhere you get an interview you will be strongly considered if you make a good impression.

hey bonedrone-- what do you mean they don't interview their own students? like, you've already had an "interview" with faculty and aren't included on the 2 interview days?

i'm in the same did-not-rotate-there-but-got-an-invite-to-interview boat. it's the same day as USC so i'm trying to weigh my actual chances, you know.

also, as a gtown med student, any opinions about the program?

thanks a lot.
