I'm really starting to think that I wont match....I applied to 50 programs, have 6 interviews, 14 rejections, and many of the programs I applied to have already sent invites just no rejections YET. Im 250+ and AOA, deans letters and LOR are all great...What is going on? Ive gotten interviews at some good places (Wash U, Campbell, Pitt), but rejected from many lesser places, even in my home state of Texas...I just want to get to 12 interviews and match...Im starting to question every aspect of my app, would a HP in surgery scare programs away. People I know have 15+ interviews with much lower scores than me

I wonder if some of the smaller places think you're so competitive that you wouldnt wanna go there? But that is weak reasoning at best. This process is very random, more so than I ever could imagine. If I had to guess youre probably the one guy with 6 interviews with really good odds of matching.

MDortho....i dont think that anyone can tell you something to make you feel a bit better. this process is so unpredictable. in your case.....i would worry if i was another applicant and saw your resume. call me crazy but i think you are going to be just fine. peace

I know how you feel. I have similar stats, 250+, jr AOA, honors in nearly every course in medical school, great evaluations from my ortho rotations...barely any interviews. I am not going to pretend to understand how this process works. Any logical explanation of how they screen applications for interview offers wouldn't explain how people like you and I end up with only a handfull of interviews. Good luck with the rest of the process.

Have you had a chance to see your LORs? Maybe one of them isn't to flattering.

I am in the same boat, only 5 interviews and 3 of them at places I rotated at. Although your Step 1 is much better than mine, grades/AOA status is similar. Have you taken Step 2 yet? I am beginning to think that was my downfall -- putting off Step 2 until Dec. Now I am trying to study for it and getting stessed about the lack of interview. Hopefully it will all work out, we will see.

Thanks for the replies guys, they actually make me feel a little better. To answer some questions...I havent taken step 2 yet, but neither have my friends that have a ton of interviews..... I havent seen my LORs personally but I sat with my residency advisor who read them all as a sat in the office with him and he told me there was nothing even a little bit negative.........Who knows whats going on, but i really never thought I would have to worry to just match!!!!!!!!
