I am in the process of filling out my application to do an away at Mayo and came across the personal statement part... are you kidding me? Is it typical for programs to ask for a personal statement, or is this just a mayo thing, and what do they want to see?

I rotated there last year. The reason they ask you for all of that stuff is that they screen the rotators to see if it is someone they would want to interview for a spot. They actually do your residency interview while you are there so you do not have to come back in the dead of Minnesota winter. As far as what they want, just do not say anything crazy. Just why you like Ortho and what you have done to expose yourself to the field. Good luck with the application process.
