This is probably the most important thing coming up for all of us, but everyone seems to have a different take on how to go about letting their No. 1 program or top 3 programs know where you stand on them, and hopefully crawling up their rank list to make that happen. Any first, second, or third-hand advice about the best mix of personal phone-calls, chairman/other personal phonecalls on your behalf, and/or second-looks at a programs would be appreciated.

In this regard, have people started to contact their top choices to let them know they're your top choices? Is it too early to do that or is now the right time? Also, not sure if I should call or write. Any advice appreciated.

I started calling my top programs just to touch base about a week ago. Told my No. 1 where they stand in the thank you and by phone call. If you have the PD's email, the best way is to email them, tell them you want to chat and get a best time & best # to call. Otherwise it'll be phone tag through the secretary.

I think it is a hit or miss situation. Some places might like you to call and express interest, some may not care, others may get annoyed since there certainly are people who tell multiple places that they will be your No. 1 choice. Sometimes it is hard to pan out the bullshitters.
