Does anyone have any information about programs that contact applicants s/p interview?

To complement that, any advice about contacting programs s/p interview?

Thanks,

If I were an applicant reading this I wouldn't believe anyone saying they have heard from a program since interviews. Last year someone was on here saying they had heard our program had called them after interviews to say they were ranked to match and that was simply not true since our program does not make those phone calls. As far as the list of this year's supposed phone calls go, last year Utah was VERY clear during the interview day presentations that there was to be no post-interview contact, not from them and not from the applicants. So I'd be very surprised if they have now begun calling people after being so admitantly opposed to it last year. I'm only posting this because the posts last year regarding the program I'm now at made one of my classmates very nervous about his prospects to match here and guess what, we're both here and never received a phone call, neither did anyone else in our class.

I know this is a way for you guys to blow off the nervous energy while awaiting the big day, I certainly spent way more time on this site than I should have last year, just try not to get too worked up about anything that is posted on here. Best of luck to everyone.

Two missed calls from the PD of a program near the bottom of my list. He called at the same time last Thursday and Friday night, and didn't leave a message both times. I looked up the number to confirm that it was the PD. I legitimately missed his call both times, but in retrospect realized it would have been awkward conversation. Any advantage in calling the PD back? Anyone think it strange that he didn't at least leave a brief message identifying himself?

I would call back. Odds are, you won't fall that far down your rank list, but if you did it would be nice to know you gave each program your best shot. And yes, I do think it is a little odd that he didn't leave a brief message, but I bet he would just rather talk in person rather than through a voice mail.

It seems like fewer programs are reaching out to applicants each year. Classmates going into other specialties have said the same thing and suggested that its due to programs getting nailed by Match violations. I wonder if its just going to be quiet until March 16th...

Not sure what others' experiences are, but I think there is and will continue to be a lot of contact between applicants and programs bw interview and ROL. I would agree most programs are moving away from the official "tier" letters and the statements at interview day saying there will be official post-interview contact, etc.

That said, I think most programs are likely reaching out to a few select applicants with calls or emails...or at the least responding to thank you letters with strongly encouraging responses. I think the prior statements regarding matching and not having received a phone call are absolutely true. Not everyone who matches will get a call or letter and not everyone who gets a call will match.

However, I can attest that programs who say they don't participate in post-interview contact actually do...so, the point of this message - while some programs say that the list is done at interview day, chances are it's not. My program states that it's done, and in many ways it is, but slight shuffling occurs until the last week, and if it's your top spot, it's always worth a phone call or email to tell them so.

HSS snail mail letter stating that the applicant will be included the their rank list.

No mention of how many or the chances of successful match. I wasn't at any info meetings so I don't know the significance of this. Anyone do sub-i's there or at any of the tour/info sessions and know the significance of this?

HSS has sent 2 snail mail letters. One stating that the applicant is at the "top" of their rank list and one stating that they will be "included" in the rank list. Take that for what it's worth.

Any sense in contacting programs over the next week and a half? I can't imagine much is going to change. Most places have to have certified and are done but I would be willing to shoot an email if I thought it mattered.

Can anything be extrapolated from programs downloading updated USMLE transcripts even after their rank lists are supposedly done (long after interview)?

Programs can't specify certain people or areas to download. Basically, if they log on and hit the "download" button - all the updated information from all the applicants is downloaded to their program.

So even if your information was updated recently, it doesn't mean it was you they were looking at - it could have been any of the ~100 applicants they interviewed.
