Has anyone started getting confirmation on their away rotations yet? If so, where? Most programs I have talked to are still waiting for their home students to finish scheduling.

The rumor about one spot at wf going to one of their students is not true according to program director. At my interview there last year, they explained that they do have a lot of wf grads, but that is just the way the match worked out. It is true that the 3rd spot is for a 7 yr spot filled outside the match. I would still rec. the program highly. It appeared to be excellent, with the only down fall being winston-salem.

Don't know much about Tulane. I think that Wake has a good program but they only have 2 5yr track positions, and I hear at least 1 of them goes to a WF student. Thus those applying, not from WF, are really competing for 1 spot (greatly decreased odds). That being said I would think that a rotator would have a better shot at the spot than a non. So if WF is a place you would really like to go the odds are probably better if you rotate. Good Luck!

I will be at UW in August (and by UW I most certainly do mean University of Washington). I will be at St. Mary's in San Francisco in September. Then at UCLA in October- they only just started scheduling; I guess they had some type of problem whereby too many of their own students signed up and they had to create more spots...

Good luck and safe travel to all!

Anyone have a place for me to stay in San Fran in September? (I have looked on Craigslist, but there hasn't been anything yet)

Orthofixation - i'm in Davis in Aug on Peds/Spine. Which service did you get? Drop me a PM with your email if you don't want to post it so I can give you the skinny once i've been through.

OHSU mailed the other day - I'm headed there in Oct/Nov.

cheers

VoltageGSR,

By the way, there's two Case guys up at Kalamazoo (a PGY-II and III, I believe). You know that I thought kalamazoo was pretty awesome so I won't go into it here.

anyone interested in michigan programs should also consider doing a AI at kalamazoo. They put you up in an apartment and you get free food all month. My buddies had to pay close to 2000 bucks in rent alone for their 3 away rotations!

CWRU = July
CCF = August
U Pitt = October

From Cleveland, so hence two AIs there.
Heard awesome things about U Pitt from residents
so definately thought I'd spend some time exploring.

Also, went to Hopkins for undergrad, lots of friends
in bmore/dc area so considering
doing an AI at U Maryland or Hopkins, but debating
if I should torture myself with four AIs...

Peace.

Thought I would take this opportunity to respond to the issue of "inbred" programs. As was correctly noted, all of our soon-to-be PG-5 residents are "home-grown". This was not done on purpose but that particular year we interviewed only 28 students (and had 18 Columbia hopefuls!) so the numbers were obviously stacked in that direction. To address this issue, we now interview 50 students from our ~450 applications. We have had a dramatic increase in interest from other medical schools and have a number of visiting students starting in July. If you are interested in rotating, please call Courtney Walsh in our Dean's Office at 212-305-1642 and she can help coordinate.

Finalized rotation at Utah last week, and will be there in September (along w/ southpaw & orthofixation it looks like)! Good luck to everyone from one of the newbies on the board.

Only 9.5 months 'til match!
