hrm.. I always wonder.. do you think they send the same notices to everyone.. to make people feel special? .. ie "outstanding applicant.. such as you".. yeah.. uh huh.

Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency
Program. We regret that we are unable to offer you an interview. There are
an overwhelming number of outstanding applicants, such as you, for a limited
number of spots. Unfortunately, it is impossible to interview all of the
applicants.

Dear Applicant]

Harvard today...

It also makes me wonder sometimes, why do they want us to feel "special":
This one was from Duke (11/11):
"Due to the large number of highly qualified applicants and the limited number of interviews we can offer, we are not able to issue invitations to many excellent candidates. I am certain you will do well in the program to which you will match. "

It's hard to make a presence when lots of people rotate through a certain place. ie harvard.. it only makes sense to rotate at programs where you can stand out.. or if you have some kind of presence there already (you've done a lot of research.. people know you,.. etc.)

Bob - I am in the same situation as you. I was pretty offended at first...but then I remembered how much rotating there sucked and was relieved that I didn't have to make the choice of whether to accept an interview.

Boston University - Waitlist
Dear Applicant,
The interview invitations were sent out this afternoon but a decision has been made to hold your application as your application was strong and the selection committee does not want to decline your application as of yet as more spots may become available. So, at this time your application is placed on hold until further notice.

Best rejection letter thus far is by.................UAB 11/26

"We appreciated your interest in UAB Orthopaedics program, but we are unable to invite you for an interview. We wish you the best in your future career."

Short, cold, and to the point...no BS.

30+ rejections and who's counting!
