I am curious about where the Wayne residents ended up finding spots at. Past program closures have had some residents getting spots in pretty good places (I know someone who transferred to HSS back when the Tampa program closed). Anybody hear what programs took them in and how many?

Mayo Clinic
Cleveland Clinic
Rush U
Wm. Beaumont
Stanford
St. Louis U
Grand Rapids
Utah
Ohio State U
U Michigan
U North Carolina
UC Davis

Anywhere from 1-4 in each program; most are 2 per program. 1-2 still making decisions. Most had multiple offers.

well, the latest is that residents from Fort Wayne have been given the option of looking for other programs. Sounds like they may be getting shut down in the near future also.

I am the DIO of Fort Wayne Med Ed. We are appealing the RRC withdrawal of accreditation and have no intention of closing. We had an abundance of good applicants this year from which we matched both our positions and anticipate the same next year. There is no comparison between the difficulties experienced by Wayne State and our program.

I appreciate your optimism Survivor. I am just realying the information that was passed on to me. I am not predicting your demise, but I have seen the applications of a few of your residents for our program. That leads me to believe that it is not as definite as you imply. Good luck with your review. I certainly don't want to see any programs crumble, or residents upended. I though Fort Wayne was a very solid program when I interviewed, it may not have the histroy of Wayne, but it would be a loss to the orthopaedic community.

When I was I was on the interview trail, I had a few program directors comment that the RRC was interested in condesning orthopaedic education and the first programs to go would be the smaller community places and those places with financial hardship. I wonder if we are starting to see their predictions come true with the current situation. It would be unfortunate if the goal of the RRC is to have every orthopaedist train at a majhor academic institution. 90-95% of us will be in private practice and will likley get a more realistic approach to orthopaedics away from the ivory tower.
