DMC/Providence, Detroit Program, applications closing 1/5/07

It amazes me that one can accept applications for something that doesn't yet exist. If this doesn't confirm the "boys club" i am not sure what else could. He must have an in with the boys in chicago!

I think people should know that the ultimate boss of this program, Mike Duggan (DMC DEO) is a former Wayne County Prosecutor who was appointed by his buddy, Jennifer Granholm (the Michigan governor) to “fix” the DMC. This last November, Duggan and the DMC took the Wayne State University School of Medicine to the 11th hour to reach an agreement on contracts, and this was only with the “pushing” of the governor through a joint friend (Mr. Fink) as the state appointed mediator. The ACGME subsequently "approved" the agreement for continuation of the other residencies, but with some hesitations.




This does beg the question of why bonafide programs with adequate case numbers and a strong educational component are struggling to add to their resident cap while some programs with a less of than stellar history of how they treated their past residents is seemingly skating through approval?

I refer you to the conversation beginning late November on (about 2/3 down the page). The comments of several of these writers indicate that ACGME intentions have been made clear to others.

Based on the silence now that Jan. 15th has come and gone, it's probably safe to assume the application was rejected by the ACGME.

Yes, thank God, the program was rejected.

As a resident in one of the programs that Dr. Blasier destroyed, beware ever working with him or anyone else listed as a member of his faculty.
