Hey all,

This is my first time on the forum...I'm just starting my first year of med school at case. I'm really interested in ortho but i know its really competitive...so im trying to get an idea of whats imp. to make myself competitive. Here's what i was told would help,

M.S. Applied Anatomy
Early step 1 prep (i.e. start getting down some of the basic pharm/micro lists down now)
Research (the way our cirriculum is set up we have about 6 1/2 months we can devote to research)
Getting good recs from people hi up in the field
doing well on rotations.

I would really appreciate any feedback people could offer....i.e. preparing for boards etc.

Thanks

do your best on every part of medical school and if you still want to do ortho when it is time to apply to residencies you will have great grades and recs. nothing beats being sincere in everything you do. i think it is a huge mistake to start medical school with the blinders on for ortho. have fun and keep an open mind. no preceptor in cardiology/medicine/etc.. wants to think "oh, this is the guy/girl that just cares about ortho". just my $0.02.
