So, ERAS says watch out for Katrina affected residencies not accepting applicants. I called the ones in Mississipi and Louisiana. Only one had an answer and it was a in case of emergency, call...

Anybody hear any specifics?

You're probably not gonna hear much from the programs in New Orleans themselves since most of the phones are probably down. In my opinion, I would probably avoid the New Orleans programs now. Everything is up in the air with those programs. No idea what's up with their hospitals. New Orleans is a wasteland right now, and who knows how long it's gonna take to get clean and rebuild. Also, with all the damae, where are you gonna live if they are accepting applications and you match? My question is, what's the situation with all the people who are in residencies down there right now? BTW, I hope it doesn't sound like I'm doggin on NOLA, believe me, I like the city, interviewed there, and am oriiginally from Louisiana.

The only ortho program in Mississippi is the University of Mississippi program in Jackson. We are up and running and the application process should not be affected by Katrina. Much of Jackson is still without power and our hospital is extremely busy, but we are working and still have students rotating.
