There have been some recent IMG threads, read them.

The basic gist is that although not impossible the odds are severely stacked against you no matter how stellar your USMLE/grades. There are just too many qualified US grads for places to "take a chance" on IMG's, no matter how many accomplishments you have. If you really wanna do it, go for it, but you should go in with a realistic picture of the struggle ahead of you.

Good Luck

I will say very high scores just will make it easier to get in residency if somebody noticed you. Many people have high scores nowadays . Most important factors (for everybody AMG and FMG) are: "to be noticed" and "personal communications" (rotations, internship, externship, research...)

if I am not mistaken they take about 6-9 FMG every year ...therefore about1% of new residents are FMGs

Two years ago, there were only 18 FMG in orthopaedics out of about 600 total spots, so the chances are very slim.

I think you are wrong total they have 600 juniors X5yearsprogram length= 3000 ortho residents in USA!!!!!!!!

I was talkin about 45 FMG among 3000 yes iti is very slim

Sorry...meant to say 18 total out of about 600 per year...meaning 18 out of approximately 3000 residents. Less than 1%. According to the article in JAMA, ortho was by far the least represented specialty when it came to FMGs, I think plastics and neurosurrgery each had about 3%.
