I was wondering if anyone had any opinions about Review of Orthopaedics by Mark Miller and Fundamentals of Orthopaedics by Mark Brinker in terms of best thing for fourth year med students to buy. I've seen several residents with the Miller book and understand that it's a pretty good book, but it's basically in outline form. Another resident has told me that the Brinker book is good for fourth years because it gives you the basic information that you need. I already have the Netter ortho atlas and the Koval Handbook of Fractures. Any opinions?

I wouldn't read Miller's book as a student. It requires a significant baseline in ortho to truly appreciate it. Stick to a simple pocket ortho book of some sort and most importantly, an anatomy book (Hoppenfeld).

Try Baratz Orthopaedic Surgery: The Essentials. It's been reviewed in the book review section of this website. It covers the basics in all of the major areas of Ortho. I was checking it out at the library for about 2 months and finally decided to pay the $99 for my own copy. If your willing to spend $200, I would add Hoppenfeld's Surgical Exposures in Orthopaedics. The new edition is going to be out next month. If not check it out.
