I was wondering if anyone had any insight or information they are willing to share about these two programs. I am not familiar with these two programs. Anyone willing to share their interview experiences as well? Thank you for your help.

I interviewed at U Michigan and thought it was a great program. I think academically and reputation wise, U Mich is superior hands down. Although I must say I don't know much about Beaumont (didn't even apply).

The operative experience (per rumors) is top heavy at MI. However, the 2's & 3's that I talked to were happy about their OR experience. Only one fellow total - in sports. so chiefs run the show. residents seemed liked good guys.

the only real negative for me is Ann Arbor. I've lived my whole life in a big city and not sure I could spend 5 years in a college town.

I interviewed at both and spent a month rotating at UMich. I think sports is v. strong at UM with the lion's share of the OR time going to the seniors. Happy residents who wouldnt want to be anywhere else. On that same note, at Beaumont you have residents who also dont want to be anywhere else. Early OR experience, more cases than there are residents, great didactics. The feel I got is that they are a blend of comm and univ based programs.

Call is bottom heavy in both programs and both places are similar in housing costs. It all boils down to where you think you would be happiest.
Good luck in the match!
