I liked surgery, but it seemed like many of the general surgeon attendings were a-holes who enjoyed humiliating residents. The ortho attendings were more approachable and the residents seemed happy. When I started scrubbing in the procedures were appealing. When I did rotations, the material was interesting and made sense to me. In retrospect, it doesn't seem like a great reason (if all the ortho attendings at my program were bitter, angry, tyrants perhaps I would have gravitated toward a different specialty-who knows). But, right now I do just about anything to get a residency spot.
