Just as a minor clarification, the program is the Medical College of WI and has no affiliation with the Univ. of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. This is my home program, so keep that in mind, but I'll give you my two cents.
I think the facilities, location of the college (in a suburb of Milwaukee), and the fact that we have a large children's hospital are strong points. I also think we have a pretty balanced program (not too trauma or joint heavy). Most of the faculty are very good, a couple difficult ones, but I don't think that's unique to this program.
One criticism I have heard is that we took 3 of 5 residents from MCW the past 2 years. Not exactly sure if that has any bearing on the upcoming match, just something that's been mentioned.
Overall, I think the residents here seem happy, definitely not as overworked as the gen surg residents.
Hope this info is helpful.

Didnt this program recently fire a resident? Just second hand info I thought I had heard a little while ago, not that it has any bearing on the program itself. Anyone can have bad apples.

Yes, from what I understand they did. Let me say from the outset that I don't have intimate knowledge of the situation, but I got the feeling from the residents that the action was justified.

in my opinion, any program that has the ba!!s to fire a resident should go up a notch in your rank list. to really be able to get rid of a resident takes an enormous amount of documentation, meetings, and effort. most programs are just too lazy to do this and end up graduating a substandard person every once in a while. this tells me that the people running the program at MCOW are really on top of their resident's education. just my $0.02.

How difficult is MCW to get into? What kind of board scores do they use as a cutoff?

I don't know that they have a specific cutoff. If they do, I am not aware of it. They don't do an official interview for the MCW students, your month on ortho counts as your interview. My (hopefully) educated guess is that it is just like most other places... i.e. if you got 220's to 230's and have a reasonable rest of your application, you'll have a shot.
