I am afraid that I am not going to match. So far I only have a couple of interviews while I applied to 40 programs. My step I is 250, AOA. I did not apply to any community programs and i think i applied to too many competitive programs. Did I make a mistake? Should I have applied to more programs?

Hang in there. I'm in a similar situation. It's frustrating and there's not a whole lot to do but wait and see how things play out. Don't second guess yourself at this point, the whole process can be random and invites/rejections can be seemingly arbitrary.

yea I guess that's about the only thing I could do besides checking my email 10000000 times a day. I knew the match was stressful but I didn't realize it is this stressful.

I know what you mean- I am 248, AOA, research, etc.. and applied to 58 programs. While applying, I think I was too selective in choosing programs and feel I should have gone for more. At this point, I only have 2 interviews.

There was a post where someone pointed out something like out of 169 AOA applicants last year, 160+ matched and ~90% of persons with >240 matched. This gives me hope and I am trying my hardest not to lose sleep.

Good luck, I feel for you!

Hey guys,

I didn’t match last year, so maybe I’m not the best example. However, I applied to 32 programs last year and at this point I had only received 3 interview offers (one of which was at my home program) and something like 8 or 9 rejections. I ended up with a total of 12 interview offers, of which I went on 10. All were at strong programs. My point is that it’s still too early in the process to start freaking out…there’s still plenty of time to start racking up some more interviews. And in the end it doesn’t matter how many interviews you get…you just need that one that you really kick ass on.

My advice is to take a break from Orthogate for a while. People posting on here are more likely to be the people out there who feel pretty good because they’ve gotten a lot of offers (no offense to those people of course). There are plenty of people out there in your positions…they’re just not as vocal on these forums.

Spiff21,

At roughly this time last year you had a few interivews. Were the interview offers that came later from programs who had not yet offered interviews? Or, were they from programs offering for a second or maybe third time; possibly as people canceled due to conflicts?

Thanks man, and best of luck to all!

Honestly, it is never over until it is over. JPS had stone cold rejected me weeks ago, and then today out of the blue I got an invite.

As people cancel, crazy stuff can happen.

Combination of both. I think that something like three of them were from programs that had already sent out at least some offers at this point. Good luck.

What is going on? There are some programs that I would love to go to that I thought realistically I would receive interview from that denied me. Should we/I start thinking now that I may hear from them? Whew!!! Just screaming out loud at this process, people!
These programs denied me point blank]Summa,
Thomas Jefferson,
UNC,

I think most of schools on that list is out of your reach. you need at least a 250+ AOA to get an invite to those places unless you have something special.

If you post on a board and ask for baseless speculation, that's what you'll end up getting.

That is a little too harsh on the person's post. I knew that people would speculate but don't insult the person's speculation. If you are so mean spirited then just read and keep on going. I digress. SPECULATE people.

Well my opinion is not totally baseless. i applied to most of the programs on your list and I got rejected from most of them. i did receive a couple of interviews tho. Since I have 250 and AOA, that's why i said they were out of your reach since apparently they are out of mine.

Look, I appreciate your opinion, really. Most, in fact, almost all the stuff posted here on Orthogate is speculations, opinions, and inferences from experiences. So I welcome the speculations.

Yea sorry I didn't mean to insult you or anything. Obviously you are a strong candidate and probably have way more interviews than me. But I am just trying to say that these programs are apparently highly competitive and that you would need even better numbers to receive an interview.

250+ AOA, etc. doesn't mean jack. It's a totally random process. Yes if you hit the nail with manhy of the prefab requirements.. you'll get a lot of interviews.. but where you get interviews is totally random. I've seen people match at places with 220 and lower at places listed there.. so you never know.

and it's early yet.. I know.. I did it last year. I had 23 interview invites. by this time I only had 6 or so
